Friday evening, September 2, 2011, David had two of Katie's best friends invite her to dinner with them at The Melting Pot. However, after they arrived with Katie she was greeted by David who she thought was still in Whitehall. David and Katie are both 3rd year medical students and David is currently doing a rotation in Whitehall, WI in family medicine. David was able to get off early on Friday in order to make the 3 hour drive to Madison to surprise Katie. He had arranged for a horse and carriage (Katie has loved horses ever since she went to Hoofbeat Ridge Camp when she was 8) to pick them up after dinner and take them on a two hour carriage ride through the city. I left before the two of them came out of the restaurant so I wouldn't intrude on their special time together.
The bench was lit by a small candle lantern, was covered by a soft blanket and there were three roses in a blue (Katie's favorite color) vase. It was here that David got down on one knee and proposed. Howard and I were waiting in a car back in a parking lot. When David texted us that he and Katie were engaged we came over to get some photos. As you can probably tell, Katie was pretty emotional.
